Turkey Creek First Baptist Church Leadership

Turkey Creek First Baptist Church is blessed to have a leadership team who are truly dedicated to Christ and accomplishing His will. Following are brief bio's of our leadership team and their qualifications for ministry.

Dr. Dan Middlebrooks

Senior Pastor

Dr. Dan Middlebrooks was called to serve as Senior Pastor of Turkey Creek First Baptist Church in September 2023. Prior to answering this call, he retired from the United States Army after 26 years of service as a Chaplain in 2013, and returned home to Plant City, Florida.

Dr. Middlebrooks earned a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1994 and a Doctor of Ministry from Erskine Theological Seminary in 2008.

In addition to his military service, Dr. Middlebrooks has served the community as a chaplain for numerous law enforcement, fire rescue, and security agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Dr. Middlebrooks and his wife, Sondra, make their home in Plant City. He is the proud father of two daughters, Erica and Allison. His life and ministry are guided by the motto: “Bloom where God plants you.”

Pastor Donnie Motes

Associate Pastor of Operations

Pastor Donnie Motes serves as Associate Pastor of Operations and is a bi-vocational minister. He currently works full-time as a Chaplain with the Florida Department of Corrections and previously retired from the Department in 2020 after a distinguished career as a Correctional Officer Major.

A veteran of the United States Army, Pastor Motes served his country for 22 years and retired from the Army Reserve as a Master Sergeant in 2010. His military service included two deployments to Iraq and one deployment to Bosnia.

Pastor Donnie and his wife, Angel, are blessed with five adult children and seven grandchildren. He earned a Master of Arts in Ministry from Louisiana Baptist University and Seminary and is passionate about serving both the church and the community through ministry, leadership, and discipleship.

Chaplain Jim Wigh

Director of Education & Evangelism

Chaplain Jim Wigh serves as Director of Education and Evangelism. He served three years of active duty in the United States Marine Corps, followed by eight years in the Marine Corps Reserve. He also retired from GTE after 30 years of dedicated service.

For more than 55 years as a follower of Christ, Chaplain Jim has been actively involved in a variety of ministries, including jail ministry, discipleship, evangelism, and Christian education.

Chaplain Jim and his wife, Sandy, have been married for more than 42 years. Together they have five children and eleven grandchildren. He is passionate about helping others grow in their faith and sharing the hope of the Gospel with the community.
